SCR News made an early evening round-up through the seven stations of the network and the general picture was the same: the first day of voter registration was peaceful and slow.Juba was tranquil and there were small queues at the referendum centres. Opoka Titus Kasino heads Referendum Centre number four at Hi Jalaba Basic School. He said that they started registering at eight and the number of people kept increasing by the hour.
In Malakal things were pretty the same with many people postponing their registration not to waist much time in the queue.
In Tonj, security was beefed up and the registration went well as the Lieutenant Colonel Chief Inspector Joseph Mayei told Don Bosco FM.
Rumbek, Wau and Yei registered a slow start while the referendum centres in Torit were quite busy.
In Yei, the registering process was very slow at some centres because the officials had difficulties in filling the forms due to age.
