Imotong State Minister of Education says gender-based violence increases in the state comes as a result of the majority of men failing to understand the meaning of gender.
Hassan Urbano Alex says the population view gender as an identity for women and it causes confusion on issues in the society, Radio Emmanuel reports.
He says men need more awareness so as to respect the dignity of women and girls.
The Minister calls on partners dealing with gender-based violence reduction, to create more awareness in schools and rural areas.
Reverend Johnson Sebit, Imotong State Director-General for Gender, says gender is for both women and men according to their roles and responsibility.
Sebit says understanding gender role brings about a peaceful society.
The Director-General decries insecurity as a major challenge hindering awareness in counties and rural areas.
The officials talked during the closure of three-day workshop on gender-based violence organized by State Ministry of Education in collaboration with Health Link South Sudan in Torit last Friday.
