Students in Yambio call for forgiveness in South Sudan for peace and justice to prevail among citizens.
Speaking during a debate, Benjamin Kuteo of Green Valley Secondary School who opposes the motion says South Sudanese need to embrace the spirit of forgiveness to allow peace and development in the country.
He during the debate under the theme: ‘Revenge is better than forgiveness’, says payback is wrong according to the Bible.
Kueto mentions that without forgiveness, there will be no development because people will only be thinking of paying back attack.
Gbarago Sabina, another opposition speaker, says forgiveness is the total source of happiness and freedom.
Gift John Richard of Yambio Secondary School, who proposes the motion, says revenge is always not good.
He adds that revenge should only be one of the measures to discipline stubborn persons in the community and the whole country.
John says for justice and peace to prevail, there must be punishment to criminals who cause harm to people intentionally.
Moses Samson Tunga, Yambio County Education Inspector, encourages all students to put into practice the lesson they learned from debate.
Leadership start at school with how learners express themselves in the public, he stresses.
Students who participate in the debate agreed to form their peace and debate clubs in their schools to educate others on harmonious co-existence.
The debate was organized by Action for Peace and Development Organization with support from Democracy International.
