At least one person was found dead after a mountain cracked in the heavy rain last Monday in Uru area of Hieban County in the Nuba Mountains.

The ridge cracked just at its tip with water that formed a big river course from the top down the foot of the hill. Voice of Peace reports

Laila Alzubeir who cultivates nearby the site, said she heard an explosion by the hill and water swept away a number of farms in the area.

Eye witnesses told Voice of Peace Radio that groundnut fields among other crops at the bottom of the hill were also swept.

Many hills have also burst with sections of small rivers but the one of Uru is the biggest crack of all cracks.

The rainfall was the heaviest in the history of the Nuba Mountains.
