UN peacekeepers in Sudan are concluding today a three-day exercise codenamed Operation Swift Shield Two in Rumbek to test security arrangements that allow humanitarian activities and protection of civilians.
The operation started on Tuesday and involved the Government of Southern Sudan, UNMIS military, civilians and agencies operating in the area.The exercise involved the deployment of a quick response force to Rumbek in order to support the team site’s Safe Refuge and Protection of Civilians operations.
UNMIS said in an information press note that the exercise aimed at controlling movement of troops within the sector, developing military practices and procedures in a joint integrated environment, and enhancing confidence of local population towards UNMIS and other agencies.
