Some citizens in Juba expressed disappointment over government’s decision to cancel the Independence Day celebrations.
They told Radio Bakhita on Monday that celebrating the day this year is important because they fail to rejoice last year.
The citizens say the day reminds them of 2011 and the separation of South Sudan from the Sudan.
The government this year stopped the ceremony due to economic crisis, but said it will be observed normally as a public holiday.
It said the money for the celebration will be used to transport South Sudanese citizens who are stranded at Juba Airport to their areas of origin.
This is the second time the country has postponed its independence due to financial shortage.
South Sudan used to commemorate the day every year on July 9 when it gained independence from Sudan in 2011.
