The Association of Consecrated Women in East and Central Africa (ACWECA) showed readiness to respond to the pastoral needs among the religious sisters in Sudan.

Sr. Catherine Okari, ACWECA Secretary General, told the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ plenary in Rumbek that the association is aware that Sudan and Eretria have special needs and the association is willing to come to Sudan.

Sr. Catherine singled out schools, health centers, catechesis, orphanages among areas run by sisters.

Sr. Catherine said she was in Khartoum in 2008 to conduct a workshop for 85 religious sisters in Sudan.

She added that the workshop was a mission of encouragement out of concern for the needs of religious sisters in their ministry.

ACWECA was founded in 1974 to help women religious in the region of East and Central Africa to come together in order to address the various needs and be of support to each other.
