The Acting Commissioner of Mundri County in Amadi State expresses fear that famine is likely to heat the area.

Simon Balasi says there is scarcity of food commodities and poor rainfall, Radio Anisa reports.

Mundri has been depending on agriculture but farmers are unable to cultivate due to rain shortage.

He believes famine and starvation will go beyond the county, if there is no rainfall for the next two months.

Balasi says Mundri County is unable to receive food items from other states because of insecurity in some parts of Amadi State.

He discloses that unknown gunmen attacked a small army barracks last Friday and left three people wounded.

Balasi made the remarks in a telephone interview on Thursday with Anisa FM Radio.
