Authorities in Gogrial State say calm has returned to the area after the warring clans of Apuk and Aguok agreed to halt hostilities following last weekend’s clashes that left 38 people dead.
Gogrial Information Minister, Ariech Mayar Ariech, told Radio Bakhita that traditional leaders from the warring communities met President Kiir in Juba and agreed to stop further violence.
Local authorities and the state government beefed up security at the area to prevent further hostilities, he adds.
Clashes between the clans of Apuk and Aguok over the weekend left at least 38 people dead and 35 others injured.
The latest clashes resulted from disputes over grazing land, borders and water points.
