The Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Resources is working with development partners to increase fish production to fight food insecurity in the country, says Minister.
James Janka Duku says they are developing the sector by improving fishing and packaging technologies, Radio Bakhita reports.
The government is also developing a national fisheries policy to increase commercial fish farming in South Sudan, he adds.
Andrew Goodwin, Associate Development expert for UNIDO says they implement a five-year project worth 11 million US dollars to improve the fisheries sector in Jubek, Terekeka and Imotong States.
The project would enable construction of landing sites in major fishing areas across the country, he adds.
The expert notes that the project would also improve fishing technology through provision of modern kits and processing.
Terekeka State Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, John Modong Santino, describes the initiative as an important tool in diversifying the fisheries industry in the country.
The ministry is working in partnership with United Nations Industrial Development Organization or UNIDO.
