Human rights situation is not good in South Sudan as long as the conflict continues, says officer of Human Rights Development Organization.

Omara Joseph observes that there is no rule of law to protect people’s rights.

He says freedom of expression and movement are rights which needed to be availed in the young nation.

People are dying, women are being raped and a lot of atrocities are being committed against people, but there is no accountability, says Joseph.

When people are being killed, the language is always that these are people in uniform who committed it, the Right Officer adds.

Joseph doubts if perpetrators will be held accountable by taking them to face the law in courts.

The Rights officer urges the government to establish strong institutions in the country as the only way to prevent conflict and achieve development.
