Nearly 12,000 IDPs in need of humanitarian aid, says spokesperson

Nearly twelve thousand internally displaced persons or IDPs in the areas are in need of humanitarian assistance, says Terekeka State government spokesperson.
 
Philip Lodu Jembeke told Radio Bakhita on Thursday that the IDPs fled the recent incident Gemmaiza and Mangala areas.
 
He explains that the internally displaced persons are currently residing in Gezira and Terekeka north without food and shelters.
 
The minister calls on nongovernmental organizations to assist the IDPs.
 
Minister Lodu explains that those who fled the incident, mostly women and children are suffering.
 
Earlier, UN agencies and government says one hundred thousand is likely to starve in South Sudan especially in Unity States.
 
This year, Food and Agriculture Organization says there has been a dramatic increase” in food insecurity around the world.
 
It says the increase is largely due to the difficulties of producing and accessing food in conflict zones and effects of higher food prices.
