The Director of Gender and Social Welfare in Tonj State is calling on parents not to abandon children with special needs, but send them to school as well.

They have rights to be treated equally like any other child, says Veronica Khamis Abdalla.

She says children with special care are very important in the community, urging parents to give them equal services.

Khamis appeals to County Directors to cooperate with parents in encouraging children with disabilities to go school.

She also urges everybody including teachers not to call people with disabilities using bad names that may discourage them from studies.

Ms Khamis calls on the state and national governments to come up with ways to support children.

The director was speaking to Radio Don Bosco on Thursday in Tonj.
