Many parts of the Nuba Mountains have been stricken by lack of water because of a severe drought in the region since last year.

Citizens in Ndrudu area of Kumbur Payam are appealing to authorities to assist with the water provision in their area, Radio Voice of Peace reports.

Cattle keeper, Mohamed Kuku says there was complete lack of water and many of the wells have dried up.

All cattle have been transferred to other areas in search of water, he adds.

Um-Juma Adam, one of the many women, cueing at the well, says one cannot fetch more than one jerrycan of water a day.

Mostly people have to wait all day for their turn, she complains.

Mayor, Khamis Ibrahim, says children and women are suffering a lot due to lack of water.

He notes that his area had a large population and he calls for urgent need of more boreholes.

The Mayor says water is life and the lack of it may cause displacement of people.
