The UN condemned Wednesday’s attack against a convoy of humanitarian aid that left at least 37 police dead.
United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator Georg Charpentier said in a statement released today that on November 3 a convoy of 99 trucks carrying urgently needed relief supplies was attacked between Ed Daien and Nyala in South Darfur.Mr. Charpentier strongly condemned the fatal attack and expressed grave concern about continued violent security incidents affecting humanitarian efforts to assist millions of people in Darfur.
He added that the attack Ð allegedly carried out by the Justice and Equality Movement Ð resulted in heavy casualties on both sides, including the deaths of 37 policemen escorting the convoy.
