Hunger and escalating violence across the country undermin efforts to restore peace in South Sudan, says Chairperson of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission or JMEC.
Festus Mogae, during stakeholders’ meeting, warns that increasing prices of goods, crimes and clashes would cause more suffering in the country, Radio Bakhita reports.
Mogae says a breakdown in command structures among the several armed groups across South Sudan would lead to further bloodshed and suffering.
Cease hostilities immediately and allow delivery of relief assistance to communities facing starvation, he urges the warring parties.
The Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission is a body formed by the African Union and other international partners to monitor the 2015 Peace Agreement.
