Catholic University of South Sudan mourns its founder

The Catholic University of South Sudan is mourning its founder and former Vice Chancellor Fr Michael Schultheis.
 
The late Fr Schultheis was found death in his room last Friday in Liberia where he was working for the new Catholic University he founded.
 
The 85-years-old late priest founded Catholic Universities of Ghana, South Sudan and Mozambique.
 
He also assisted in developing St Augustine University in Tanzania, Jesuit University in Nigeria and recently he founded the Catholic University of Liberia where he died.
 
The late priest studied theology and philosophy in Gonza University in 1958 and obtained a masters degree in St Mary University of Minnesota, USA in 1966.
 
He obtained his PhD on economics with an emphasis on international agricultural development from Cranial University.
 
The late Fr Schultheis co-founded the Jesuit Refugees Service and worked as first director for the organization in East African communities.
 
He worked with Clement Mboro to unite the SPLM/A factions of Dr John Garang and Dr Riek Machar in early 1990s.
 
Vice Chancellor of Catholic University of South Sudan Fr Mathew Pagan describes his predecessor as a ‘veteran educator’ with great sense of compassion for African youth.
 
He says the university will on Friday hold a Eucharistic celebration to remember late Fr Michael Schultheis.
