The President of the Republic on Thursday announced the start of the Great South Sudan Run Initiative on Saturday, says government spokesman.
Michael Makuei Lueth broke the news in a press conference in Juba that President Salva Kiir Mayardit describes the initiative as another step for peace and nation building.
The spokesperson quotes President Kiir’s statement clarifying that insecurity is the cause of hunger and the looming famine.
The president appeals to the nation to start participating in the great run.
He also asks armed opposition to put peace as their priority.
The Great South Sudan Run, the first of its kind, will host three athletics from friendly counties including Kenya and six professionals from Ethiopia are expected to join the initiative.
