International Organization for Migration or IOM has condemned an attack on its staff, civilians and health workers by unknown armed men this week.
IOM in a statement says the humanitarian workers were assaulted during a lifesaving mission in four cholera treatment units in Yirol East County.
William Lacy Swing, Director-General says the attack resulted in the death of two people and wounding of three others.
He confirms that one of the health officers who sustained a gunshot is currently in a stable condition.
Lacy describes the attack on aid workers and civilians as shocking.
He says the assault took place in an area where there is dire need of assistance due to outbreak of cholera.
Lacy warns that such attacks harm the ability of humanitarian partners to provide assistance to millions in need of lifesaving aid.
He points out that insecurity and restrictions continue to hinder the ability of IOM and other aid agencies to reach the most vulnerable people across the country.
