One and half million South Sudanese have fled the ongoing fighting and famine to neighbouring countries, the UN refugee agency said over the weekend.

UNHCR spokesman in Uganda Charlie Yaxley said there are thousands of new arrivals every day.

He pointed out that the UNHCR had planned for 300 thousand this year, but had already received 120 thousand new arrivals in the first two months of this year.

If this rate of inflow continues actually that figure for 2017 will be far higher, Yaxley warned.
