Government has confirmed Lieutenant General Duop Lam’s resignation from heading the Ministry of Labour.
Government Spokesperson, Michael Makuei Lueth told journalists on Friday that General Duop was simply defecting to the opposition movement led by Dr Riek Machar.
He downplays the resignation of several officials as insignificant in shaking government stability.
Spokesperson Makuei admits that there is insecurity in some parts of the country.
The cabinet has directed the Minister of Petroleum to continue negotiation with companies and the security sector to deploy more protection force in oil fields, says the official.
The move is intended to increase oil production in the Upper Nile region to improve the country’s collapsing economy.
The spokesperson was briefing the press on Friday after regular cabinet meeting.
