The government of Western Lakes State requests United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS’ head to support IDPs with food aid and non food items.

Governor Makoi Bol Kodi appreciates peace and reconciliation programs UNMISS supports in the state, Radio Good News reports.

He urges the Mission to support infrastructure development, supply of food aid to the hungry population and resettle IDPs in Malek, Meen and Bahrgel Counties.

The Governor says his administration has declared hunger in Western Lakes due to crops failure caused by drought and floods.

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General David Shearer says he chose Rumbek for his first visit outside Juba because of its central location in South Sudan.

He expresses gratitude to acquaint himself with the distinguished cooperation between Rumbek authorities and UNMISS.

The Special Representative promises that UNMISS will continue to support Western Lakes and that the reconciliation the Mission facilitated reduced conflict in the state.

He says UNMISS is planning to support road construction in the country through its military engineering contingent.

The UN Special Representative made the remarks during his brief meetings with government officials at the State Secretariat and the Parliament before returning to his next visit in Wau.
