UN says South Sudan refugees’ number hits 1.38 million

United Nations report says South Sudanese refugee figure in neighbouring countries has hit at least 1.38 million.
 
The report says 1.8 million South Sudanese are displaced within the country.
 
July 2016 fighting was a serious obstacle for peace in South Sudan showing unpredictable situation, says Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
 
Civilians are living under the risk of mass atrocities, the official points out in the report.
 
The Transitional Government of National Unity should take action to break the cycle of violence and impunity, the report urges.
 
It presses the government to take steps to fully support quick establishment of the Hybrid Court for South Sudan by the African Union.
 
The UN Human Rights Division indicates that women and girls were ordered to cook for soldiers at checkpoints when their family members were raped in July last year.
 
The report recommends the government to ensure all victims of human rights’ violations have access to effective medication and fair compensation.
