Oil production in Unity States will resume in February after two years of shutdown due to insecurity, announced Minister of Petroleum.
Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth told reporters on Sunday that his ministry and oil companies agreed to reopen oil fields in Unity State, Radio Bakhita reported.
He said they also agreed with the companies to increase production in Upper Nile region next month.
The Petroleum Minister says oil companies and the government formed a secretariat to assess the security situation in the oil fields before resumption of production.
He returned to Juba on Sunday after holding talks with executives of China National Petroleum Corporation and PETRONAS in China and Malaysia.
