PALICA Centre of the Catholic Diocese of Wau on Monday started the two-week training for more than 30 catechists at John Paul School.
Vicar General, Fr Germano Bernardo, urges the catechists to constantly read the Bible to have enough knowledge, Radio Voice of Hopre reports.
It is the duty of catechists to prepare people for baptism, anointing of the sick and matrimony, he added.
Director of PALICA says the two-week training is meant for the whole diocese to implement the new way of catechism based on the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Fr Mathew Michael Nyaka, one of the facilitators, says the course aims to strengthen the faith of catechists.
He adds that the training will introduce new methods and books for catechists to gain respect.
James Wek Yordit, a participant from Akon Parish, says the training will help the church increase its workforce in preaching the word of God.
The training is an annual program meant to update catechists of the Catholic Church in Wau.
