Chiefs and youth leaders and communities of four counties of Tonj South express their readiness to surrender weapons to the government.

The community positively responded to the government disarmament initiative earlier in 2016, they tell Wanh-alel South Payam administrator, Radio Don Bosco reports.

Administrator Machiek Kur Deng tells youth not to carry guns, warning that violators will face the law.

He encourages the state government to make the same disarmament in Tonj North and Tonj East.

He says if Tonj North and East are not disarmed, the same guns will go to Tonj South and peace will not prevail.

Chief Thembany Duat Machar complains that the state government has disarmed and failed to protect them from the neighboring states.

The government promised communities to surrender guns so that their security would be provided but did not materailize, he adds.

The Chief recalls that few months ago, six people were killed allegedly by armed cattle raiders from Gok State.

He blames government officials for not keeping their promise.

One of the youth leaders, Lual Dut, attributes communal fighting to land and property grabbing.

He says youth do not now want to continue fighting because they are tired of losing so many of their age mates.
