The outgoing United Nations or UN Secretary-General says the global community has betrayed South Sudan.

Ban Ki-moon published an article last Friday, saying the risk of mass atrocities including recurrent events of ethnic cleansing may result into possible genocide.

South Sudanese people continue to suffer, yet the UN Security Council and the region stand divided, he laments.

Ki-moon says the division among members of the international community gives South Sudanese perpetrators of violence more time to mobilize resources to continue civilian slaughter.

He urges the UN Security Council, regional bodies and the international community at large to step up to end South Sudan crisis.

The outgoing Chief says numerous decisions to improve the performance of UNMISS in protection of civilians will not end the conflict.

There must be a political solution, the outgoing he advises.

Ki-moon decries South Sudan social fabric breakdown, economic meltdown, displacement, hunger and poverty.

He condemns continuous government restrictions on operations of UNMISS and humanitarian organizations.
