POPE REPRESENTATIVE ARRIVES IN MALAKAL

The representative of the Pope in the Sudan arrived today in Malakal on a three-day pastoral visit that includes the blessing of a new church in town.

Apostolic nuncio archbishop Leo Boccardi told the welcoming crowd that his visit to the diocese was missionary and pastoral, Radio Voice of Love reported.

Archbishop Boccardi encouraged the faithful to remain firm in their call to follow Christ.

He extended greetings and blessings from Pope Benedict to the people of Malakal.

Malakal Apostolic Administrator Roko Taban Musa said in his welcoming speech that the nuncio’s visit was a blessing to the Diocese especially during the time the people of South Sudan prepared to exercise their right to self-determination.

He added that archbishop Boccardi was in town to bless St Daniel Comboni Church.

Bishop Hillary Garang of Episcopal Church of Sudan also welcomed archbishop Boccardi.
