The National Prisons Service of South Sudan is expected to graduate 134 inmates and 92 staff from Vocational Training Centre.
The 226 inmates and prison staff is the first batch of trainees.
The UNDP Access to Justice and Rule of Law Project, with funding from the Kingdom of the Netherlands supports the training to promote prisoners’ rehabilitation.
The centre aims at teaching technical skills to inmates to enable them earn a living and facilitate their rehabilitation as contributors to society when released.
The inmates and prison staff were trained carpentry, masonry, electricity, welding, vehicle mechanics, agriculture, hair dressing and tailoring skills.
The second batch of inmates is currently undergoing training in the same eight trades.
