Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, JMEC Deputy Chairman says with combined efforts cantonment of SPLA-In-Opposition can be made a reality in South Sudan peace process.
Ambassador Augostino Njoroge says the two-day workshop in Juba shows clearly that cantonment requires a great amount of planning, coordination and cooperation with all parties.
He stresses inclusivity in the peace process by inviting all ‘parties’ to join the cantonment sites and ensuring genuine representation of national characters in all transformed institutions.
During the end of the two-day workshop, he concludes that many challenges lie ahead to ensure that cantonment is a success.
The workshop tasks UNMISS; JMEC, Ceasefire Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring Mechanism, CTSAMM and other experts to recommend short and long-term approaches for Cantonment Assembly.
The peace deal supervising bodies will also recommend on cantonment criteria and logistic plus support requirements such as housing, field feeding, communications, transportation, health, welfare and security.
