The Secretary- General of Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference, SCBC cautions that the next generation will blame South Sudanese leaders for destroying the nation.

Fr Jacob Odwa speaks to CRN Reporter about the destiny of South Sudan.

In what seem serious observations, Fr Jacob Odwa, the Secretary-General of the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference says the next generation will blame South Sudanese leaders if they are not careful of making clean records.

South Sudan is supposed to be a country full of hope after independence from Khartoum, Sudan.

Unfortunately, it is now in a huge man-made humanitarian crisis.

Recurrent conflicts have caused huge displacements, thousand deaths and dire food shortages.

Fr Odwa appeals to South Sudan leaders to prepare the nation for the next generations.

He urges political and faith based leaders to contribute for the welfare of the citizens.

The SCBC Secretary-General encourages citizens to be hopeful despite prevailing political and economic hardships in the country.

Fr Odwa believes time will come when South Sudanese will forget all hardships they are facing now.

He calls on leaders in charge of the national affairs to join hands in bringing peace.

Fr Odwa says Catholic Bishops held a conference in Khartoum, Sudan last month, where Bishop Edward Hiiboro Kussala of Tombura-Yambio Diocese, was elected the new president of Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference.

The SCBC wrote a letter to Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al Bashir to contribute to peace restoration in South Sudan, he says.

Fr Odwa says the conference discussed among others the living conditions of priests, wellbeing of major seminaries and how priests can go for further studies.

The Secretary-General says Bishop Hiiboro is expected to assume the presidency of SCBC from the first of January next year.
