Amnesty International on Saturday condemned Kenya’s deportation of opposition spokesperson James Gatdet Dak to Juba.
The rights’ body in a statement says the deportation of Gatdet is a shameless and dangerous attack on refugee rights.
Spokesperson Gatdet was deported on Thursday over comments welcoming the firing of the Kenyan UN force commander in South Sudan for failing to protect civilians.
Kenyan immigration officials blocked UN officials from meeting James Gatdet at the Jomo Kenyatta International airport according to Amnesty International.
Sarah Jackson, Amnesty International’s Deputy Director for East Africa says Gatdet’s deportation is Kenya’s latest attack on refugees’ right to safety, placing him at grave risk of torture in Juba.
Gatdet has been a recognized refugee in Kenya since August 2015.
