The United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS in Imotong State is calling on the government leadership to listen to the cries of citizens for peace, to open up ways for developmental projects in the country.

UNMISS says most developmental projects aiming at global Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 may not be achieved in South Sudan if the war continues, Radio Emmanuel reports.

Bashir Alligella, the UNMISS Acting Head of Field Office in Torit says achieving the Sustainable Development Goals will be very difficult in the country.

Alligella says countries around the globe are working on the new Sustainable Development Goals, but South Sudan might not succeed if the violence remains threat.

Okidimoi Ogura, Imotong State Acting Governor says the government is committed to bringing peace and allowing the UN agencies to continue reaching the needy with their developmental projects.

The officials made the statements at Torit Freedom Square on Friday while commemorating UN Day.

The UN Day is officially marked on every 24th of October to reflect on the work UN does in promoting peace, development and human rights.
