UN Peacekeeping Chief has re-appealed to the Security Council to impose an arms embargo on South Sudan after recent violence left hundreds of civilians dead.

Herve Ladsous says he anticipates increased fighting in South Sudan at the end of the rainy season.

He thinks an arms embargo should happen now because the dry season is frequently the time when people go back to military operations.

The Peacekeeping Chief says the UN Security Council is weighing its next steps in South Sudan after the government in Juba showed little cooperation for deployment of four thousand strong neutral regional forces.

The Council voted in August to deploy the force in Juba with threats of arms embargo if President Kiir’s administration continues to oppose the plan.
