UN demands empowerment of rural women in South Sudan

UN agencies are calling for empowerment of rural women and an end to gender inequality in South Sudan.
 
Empowerment of women is a key tool to develop the country, said representatives of World Food Program, Food and Agriculture Organization and UN Women, Radio Bakhita reports.
 
Abdul Kherim Ba, FAO Deputy Country Representative calls for collective efforts to move South Sudanese women out of poverty.
 
The government and development partners should develop Bomas and Payams to avoid rural-urban migration, says Regina Ossa Lullo, a director in the Ministry of Gender and Social Welfare.
 
UN Women, Deputy Country representative, Lansana Womnneh, urges the government to exert efforts to up lift South Sudanese women from poverty.
 
The speakers were addressing International Rural Women’s Day under the theme: ‘Together breaking the cycle of rural poverty’.
