South Sudan is joining the globe to commemorate the International Rural Women’s Day on Monday at World Food Programme or WFP Office near Rock City in Juba.
The event under the theme: ‘Together breaking the cycle of rural poverty’ is being organized by the WFP in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare and UN Women, says George Fominyen, WFP Communications Officer.
He adds that the world celebrates Rural Women’s Day on October 15 every year.
The day was established by UN General Assembly on December 18, 2007 to recognize the critical role and contribution of rural women in enhancing agricultural and rural development.
The day is also meant to encourage women work hard to improve food security and eradicate rural poverty.
