The Education Department of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek starts tomorrow in Tonj a series of civic education workshops, targeting teachers and those involved in the Accelerated Learning Programme.

The civic education sessions will be repeated in at least in 14 centres of Lakes, Warrap and Northern Bahr El Ghazal states.

Arnold Rapango, a member to the Diocesan Education Program on Civic Education, told Good News Radio that the workshop was delayed due to logistical problems with the transportation of kits from Nairobi to Rumbek.

Mr. Rapango said the workshop will deal with civic responsibilities, referendum and participation in development issues.

Philip Gachube, diocesan Teacher Trainer, said he will tackle the topic of governance, with focus on the characteristics of a good government, the roles of the government and citizens and sources of revenue.

The Diocesan Education Field Coordinator, Robinson Odong Wani, is in charge of administrative leadership in South Sudan and the Referendum.

He added that participants will debate the pros and cons of unity and separation in view of their vote in the referendum.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance at the end of the workshop.

The program is sponsored by the European Union.
