Assembly to meet community leaders over high dowry, says Speaker

Western Lakes State Legislative assembly will sit down with community leaders in order to find out whether high dowry contributes to conflicts, says Speaker.
 
Marik Nanga Marik told Radio Good News on Thursday that the community considers girl child as the source of wealth for the clan or an extended family.
 
Nanga pointed out that some youth try to have many cows in order to ease their marriages.
 
He added that cattle rustling become common because of high bride price in Western Lakes’ society.
 
The UNMISS acting Head of office in Rumbek Timothy Hudner cited reduction of communal in the conflict in the state because of a number of peace agreements among communities.
 
The speakers made the remarks during one-day workshop for members of parliament in Western Lakes State Assembly organized by UNMISS Civil Affairs.
