Humanitarian response in was ‘severely’ underfunded, despite the deepening crisis South Sudan faces, said United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs or OCHA.

OCHA said 691 million US Dollars equivalent to 54 percent was received out of 1.3 billion Dollars required under the 2016 South Sudan Humanitarian Response Plan.

The Ofiice said ‘hunger and malnutrition have reached historic levels and taken hold in previously stable areas’.

It raised concerns about the increasingly dangerous and difficult operating environment, with violence against aid workers, impediments, looting and interference in humanitarian work.

OCHA said humanitarian partners delivered assistance and protection to more than 3.2 million people across the country from January to July 2016.

The UN Refugee Agency reported in its latest update that an increase in the arrival rate of South Sudanese refugees into White Nile State is expected.
