South Sudan celebrates International Literacy Day in Aweil

South Sudan is today joining the world in celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the International Literacy Day in Aweil.
 
The occasion under the theme: ‘Reading the past, writing the future’ is organized by United nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO and the Ministry of General Education and Instruction.
 
The Day will witness sports for literacy and peace, football game for the celebrations,
 
The Day celebrates and honours the past five decades of national and international commitment, efforts and growth made to increase literacy rates around the world.
 
UNESCO said the vision of literacy is aligned with lifelong learning opportunities with special focus on youth and adults.
 
Literacy is a part of Sustainable Development Goals, which aims to ‘ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’, it added.
