A priest in Yei Catholic Diocese is calling on citizens or organized forces to avoid unnecessary shooting of guns.

Fr Tom Poru Martin says unnecessary shooting in the town may kill or wound innocent people, Radio Easter reports.

He notes that people in Yei stay in fear due to continuous gunshots at night.

Fr Poru says people have been killed like ‘chickens’, without respect for human life.

He condemns the killings and calls on the authorities to get rid of those continuously shooting guns.

Last month, six people were killed in Yei including three bodies of one family members found floating in the river.

On August 14, the SPLA headquarters in Juba issued an order banning unnecessary gun shooting in Yei.

The order warned that violators should be disarmed or shot in case of resistance.
