Yei River State government defends that communities are to blame for failing to nominate women as candidates in the positions of county commissioners.

The comments follow the appointment of 13men as commissioners in all the counties of the state, Radio Easter reports.

State Information Minister Stephen Lodu Onesimo says when the communities in the state were given the chance to select three nominees for commissionership, they chose men all.

He says some communities say ‘this time, they need a male candidate to lead them’.

Minister Lodu says creating the counties would resolve the temporary insecurity issues in the state.

He adds that setting up such structures easily bring peace and development and soon will attract residents who fled to return to their respective counties.

Lodu says the government together with its people will join hands to sustain the counties amidst economic hardships.

The Minister was speaking to Radio Easter on Tuesday.
