An ecumenical delegation of Sudanese religious leaders yesterday met U.N. officials and Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to express its fear of what may happen if the referendum does not take place as planned.
Episcopal Church of Sudan Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul told the press that his delegation was in New York to raise an alarm to the United Nations, New York Times website reported.Archbishop Deng said the Church knows every thing at the ground level because it is always with the people.
He explained that the ecumenical delegation was in the USA on an awareness and advocacy campaign in advance of the referendum.
Archbishop Deng was joined at the press conference by Auxiliary Bishop Daniel Adwok Kur Marko of Khartoum, Bishop Paride Taban and Rev. Ramadan Chan, general secretary of the Sudan Council of Churches.
