Residents in Maridi State on Friday staged a demonstration protesting the proposed deployment of regional forces into the country.
The protestors marched from Maridi Freedom Square through the headquarters to the governors’ offices to present their petition, Radio Bakhita reported.
The protesters chanted ‘we need peace, not UN and AU intervention in the country”.
Bakhita Radio talk to some of them on phone from Maridi during the demonstration and they expressed their strong rejection of foreign army in the young country.
The countrywide demonstrations followed AU and UN endorsement of the deployment of troops from Kenya, Uganda, Sudan and Rwanda to South Sudan.
