The United States reassured the people and the government of South Sudan of its support to the young country.
The Deputy Spokesperson of the Department of State, Mark Toner in a statement on Sunday, said US has no plan for offensive action in South Sudan.
He said US remains committed to help South Sudanese by pressing both sides to bring about a peaceful resolution to the crisis and maintain humanitarian assistance program.
The deputy spokesperson said a small contingent of US military personnel deployed to Juba is to assist the Embassy temporarily bolster its security.
He said the additional troops in Juba are there only to protect the Embassy and American citizens who are leaving South Sudan because of the conflict.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of South Sudan and your families during this difficult time, said the official.
We mourn with you the tragic loss of life that has taken place since this crisis began, he added.
