UNMISS condemns revival of violence ahead of fifth anniversary

The UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS strongly condemns in the revival of violence in the country, which resulted in numerous civilian casualties and injuries over the course of the week in Juba, Wau and Bentiu.
 
UNMISS in a statement on Friday calls on all parties to end the ongoing fighting and refrain from inflicting further hostility against innocent civilians.
 
UNMIISS Chief, Ellen Margret Loej, urges all parties to cease from violence and focus on the implementation of the agreement for the benefit of all people of South Sudan.
 
She deplores the indiscriminate shooting on a senior UN agency official on Thursday evening at Tomping area of Juba.
 
The head of UNMISS says the act constitutes a grave violation of the agreement call Status of Forces between the Government and the UN.
 
She calls on the authorities to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to account.
 
Loej says UN and the international community should not be targeted because they are here to assist the people of South Sudan on their road to peace.
 
She says UN remains resolved in fulfilling its mission in South Sudan and supporting the implementation of the agreement for a peaceful and prosperous country.
