Oxfam Country Director in South Sudan calls for an urgent economic reform and protection of the peace agreement in the six-year-old country.

Zlatko Gegic in a statement on Thursday warns that without commitment from all signatories to the peace agreement, the country will weaken.

He adds that South Sudan’s economy is in crisis and people will continue to suffer and the peace process will be at risk without economic reform.

The Country Director emphasizes that South Sudan needs investment in its people, economy and future.

Gegic urges the transitional government and the international community to focus on upholding the provisions of the peace agreement.

He urges the transitional government and the international community to ensure that citizens can engage in the political process and have their concerns taken into account.

The official notes that the transitional period offers the government of South Sudan an opportunity to change this direction.

‘The international community must support South Sudan through this critical process’, he appeals.
