Child Welfare Secretary in Kauda, Heiban County calls on the community of the Nuba Mountains to care and stand in solidarity with the widows.

Ekram Abeid told Radio Voice of Peace on Tuesday that the region has many widows who are given less attention in the society.

She said widows are very important because they grow children who would be the future leaders of the Nuba Mountains.

The Secretary advised the communities not to forget women who lost their husbands because they died in the liberation struggle.

Ms Abeid said many widows are in extreme poverty and have no people to support them especially by sending their children to school.

The Secretary was speaking ahead of the International Widows Day commemoration on Thursday.
