The Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Torit appealed to the government of Uganda to help its South Sudan counterpart to reduce illegal guns in the hands of civilians.

Monsignor Thomas Oliha was talking during a cross-border peace meeting in Kaabong District of Uganda last week, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He says possession of arms by civilians in South Sudan has greatly hindered peace in the country.

The Apostolic Administrator also encouraged the citizens to voluntary surrender their guns to promote peace in the state and the country at large.
