The Minister of Information in Tonj State says the government suspended and detained all chiefs in the village for failing to disarm their armed civilians.
Madit Malek Akuien says the chiefs were given nine days to collect illegal guns from civilians, but no proper work done, Radio Don Bosco reports.
He says SPLA soldiers will be accompanied to the villages by chiefs to show those owning guns to be disarmed.
Minister Malek vows to settle the issue of cattle raiding in the area.
He says collection of guns is the biggest challenge because the civil population is carrying guns.
The minister assures good security and peaceful disarmament of communities in the state.
